The Field of Honor Memorial was built in honor of those who died in the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. The memorial features a large granite monument with name engravings, back-dropped by a nine foot high waterfall. The memorial serves as a place for reflection and remembrance. The variety of desert-tolerant plants combined with ample seating and the trickle of water down small steps invokes a sense of serenity and peace. Smooth and sand-blasted golden granite combines on the memorial for a variety of textures to be touched. A pathway runs behind the memorial to open to the field beyond. The pathway, along with a tree-lined jogging path surrounding the site, encourages the space to be used as a celebration of life as well as a commemoration to those who have died for freedom.
