Morgantown Place Student Housing
Morgantown, WV
Client: Place Properties
Project Completion: 2009 Project Role: Jessica Fernandez, Ph.D, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP ND- Landscape Master Planner and Designer Morgan Place consisted of two phases of student housing apartments. The town hall, located centrally within the complex, is meant to be a place for students to have fun and relax. Located on the side of a mountain, the design for the site takes full advantage of views to the streams, trees, and other natural features of the location. The pool for Morgan Place boasts an infinity edge, appearing to continue to the forest beyond the town hall. A pool volleyball court, television projection screen system for movie watching on floats, and intricate hardscape patterns of stone and concrete combine on the pool deck combine to make the pool an amenity that attracts students to the complex. The building placement proposed by engineers called for a restoration of the vegetation on hillsides. By applying swaths of five different grasses as well as native trees and shrubs, the hillsides not only display an aesthetically pleasing and colorful variety of plants- erosion and other environmentally harmful processes were deterred. *Jessica and Ryan Fernandez contributed to the Morgantown Student Housing Complex while employed by Niles Bolton Associates. |
